Sidebar left – Question

Hi,

I want to give it a shot, to put the sidebar left instead of right. I noticed, that in this case the source code of the sidebar is moving above the content. Is it possible to put the left sidebar code below the actual content? I think it would be better for Google and Seo.

I hope you got my question, because my english is silly. 😀

Changing the page structure is not an easy task and requires lots of cutomizations in order to achieve the desired result.
Also the actual structure don’t affect the SEO. Basically the theme does not control the SEO, it only controls how the content it’s displayed on the site. SEO it’s controlled by plugins like SEO BY Yoast which it’s designed for stuff like this.
You can try to change the page structure if you want by editing the single file corresponding with the post template used, but you also need to adapt the css. This is not an easy task and if you’re not aware of the steps you need to take in this regard my advice is to hire a developer to do it for you as we can’t offer custom services at the moment.

That means, the code structure doesn’t matter for Google and Seo? Because I read on one SEO site: The content should simply placed above everything else (e.g. Sidebars) to achieve the best Seo results. But I don’t know.

The seo is not affected if the content it’s below the sidebar in page source. There are many other things which can influence it but decently not this page structure.

Conventional SEO wisdom is that you don’t want to push down content you want to rank for with left sidebars, excessive CSS code, Java Script, etc. A good test would be to choose an article you have that ranks well in google, give that article its own long, custom left sidebar, and see if this affects your organic results. I haven’t tested this because I don’t find left sidebars appealing enough to be worth the risk.

Site structure does affect SEO. If you don’t want Google to try to rank content in your navigational menus, sidebars, ad boxes, author box, comments section, footer, etc., you need to tell Google where these things are using proper HTML5 structure. When and where the theme uses header tags is also extremely important.

If a site has Yoast SEO properly configured, has SEO optimized articles, and ranks for competitive keywords, that site’s organic results will still be negatively impacted if it switches from an SEO optimized theme to a non SEO optimized them. (The exception to this is cases where a site has a strong backlink profile. Strong off-page SEO and overcome poor on-page SEO)
