Problems upgrading themes

We are on Newsmag 2.2 on one of our sites, and we need to upgrade to 2.3.5.

The process we followed for migration was :
1) Export Theme Settings from 2.2
2) Create a new folder for New-NewsMag
3) Apply theme changes we had done in 2.2, to the new folder in (2)
4) Reimport the Exported settings

We found that some theme settings did not get imported correctly.

Specifically, Per Category Settings, Custom Sidebars, were not updated correctly.

The worry now is we’d have to check all settings across all of the Theme’s settings, and check if they are implemented right. If not, we’d have to reconfigure the settings.

(a) Is there a known issue with the Export / Import of theme settings?
(b) Is there a better process for migrating ?
(c) Do you offer this as a service ?

Hi

I am not sure why you did the migration this way as there is a more simpler method.
First make sure you do a full backup of your current wp-install and database to: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups
Then follow our documentation to update the theme: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-the-theme/ Make sure that you do a clean update, meaning the we recommend to delete the old theme files, clear all caches, deactivate all others plugins that you have it installed and purge cdn files if you’re using.
Also make sure you update Visual Composer plugin at V 2.3.5 here is our documentation in this regard: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/

Thanks!

let me rephrase the question
i have a wordpress site with wordpress 4.4.2 with newsmag theme v2.2.
i have to update the theme from v2.2 to v2.3.5
1) what steps to be followed for this process ??
Note : i have customized v2.2 theme according to our requirement so while updating the theme we don’t want to loose those modifications.

Hi

Other way to update the theme it’s by using theme’s patch. However this solution works only from one theme version to another. You can address us via email including a link to this thread and we can provide the patch for each theme update.

Thanks!
