Hi,
I use Brightcove for my videos and am using Newspaper (love the theme), but am trying to figure out how to use it in the same way the theme uses Vimeo/Youtube.
Is this possible? I’ve tried adding my url for the video into the featured video, and tried with post 9,10,11, and no luck.
The Brightcove WP plugin works, but it is subpar compared to how Vimeo works with the theme – I would like to recreate that, but with Brightcove.

Unfortunately implementing another video platform is not easy at all so I cannot provide a solution for this. The theme code was created specifically for youtube and vimeo.

Sorry for not having a better answer but we have not tested any other networks for the featured videos. Maybe in a future version we will be able to add more support for them.

Thank you for your response – greatly appreciated. 2 follow up questions:
1) if i have a guy that is good with excellent with php, do you think it is something that he can do custom, or is it seriously difficult?
2) if I do use brightcove the way that it is now, where do I adjust the video size settings? The video comes in smaller than the Vimeo videos that I am using. Is this a setting somewhere?

3) if I do a 301 Redirect to have a category land on a custom page, how do I get the child categories to remain unchanged? I’d like my main Category to go to a custom page, but keep the child categories as they are with the theme default. I did the Redirect in .htaccess, but then my child categories were also redirected for that url name… hope that makes sense.

1) Well you do not have to be a rocket scientist to implement a new video support :). If he knows his way around php and has the time to study the code a bit, he should be able to do it.
2) We are not sure how the brightcove plugin works as we have not tested at. If there is a setting for dimensions, they should be in the plugin settings.

Hi Bogdan! The implementation for BrightCove worked – my developer hardcoded it with the aid of your screenshots. One question: Is it possible to do this somehow in the child theme so that I may update the theme easily without worrying about it breaking… or having the need to copy/paste the code with every update?

Glad you got it going! Unfortunately the whole wp-booster file cannot be modified in the child theme. It has to be done in the main theme. Keep a back-up of the modification made by your developer and re-apply it when updating.
