The picture got added just normal via the default backend visual editor (on the tag page). You can see it here:

This feature does not come from the theme or wordpress for that mattewr. I only saw the edit screen for tags from the seo yoast plugin bu it does not look like yours: http://screencast.com/t/lBmDSgOmvznQ so probably you have a different plugin that adds this functionality. Unfortunately we have not tested this so I cannot say for sure where your edit screen is coming from and how it should display.

this editing screen comes from TinyMCE Advanced (+1 Mio users). But nevertheless, if I deactivate it and add the image via the default function like in your screenshot, (here’s mine: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mcwn18mogbblygj/Tag%20Page%20Backend%202.JPG?dl=0 )
the issues stays the same.
Any further thoughts on this?

What I can specific is, if I remove the caption text, there is no issue with code around the image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w616inej6r5de13/No%20caption%20text.JPG?dl=0
If I add an caption text: https://www.dropbox.com/s/s9xqpf8pfgvggyo/With%20caption%20text.JPG?dl=0
With or without caption text, the modal function is also not working.

I tested this myself and it seems to be an error with captions on this filed. I will add this to our list of bugs and fixes and we will look into this issue. Until then, try to use the images without captions.

Unfortunately the caption Id issue is still present in newspaper 7. This issue was not fixed in the new update as this option to add images is added by plugins not the theme itself so there were other issues that had a bigger priority.
