I want to upgrade to Newspaper 7 but I don’t know if my child theme will still work. Is there something special I need to do to make sure my changes are carried over?

Hello,
Unfortunately there is little to no chance of your modifications in the child theme to work in newspaper 7. Lots of files were changed from newspaper 6 to newspaper 7. You will have to re-create your child theme in newspaper 7 and then re-apply the customization to the new files. Unfortunately there is no update proof method of altering the theme code.
