Hi there,
I am using Newspaper on a site which has wp super cache running and all pages seem to cache fine except for the frontpage which is using the instagram widget. If I remove this widget speeds are okay. But once added the frontpage loads extremely slow (can take up to 18 seconds before output is sent to the browser)
Somehow that cache gets invalidated every minute on the frontpage.
Is this a known issue and what can we do about it?
Hi
When Instagram widget is used on the page the theme makes a request at Instagram url to retrieve the page of the specified account. If the response time is to slow I assume that there is a slow connection between your server and Instagram’s server. The response time between servers is not controlled by the theme and also cannot be improved by it.
Please address us via email at contact@tagDiv.com and give us wp-admin so we can have a closer look and maybe we can help. In your message include a link to this conversion.
Thanks!
Hello Team,
I noticed the same thing…
Using the instagram plugin on the page, my website is a bit slower, and the pagespeed passes from 81 to 73 !
My website url is http://www.regardnomade.com/
Is there any way to correct that?
Thanks for your help.
Vincent.
Hi Andrei,
It should be possible to cache te response and refresh like every hour. Looking into the code I can see there is some sort of caching mechanism built into the widget but it doesn’t seem to work. We’ve switched to another plugin for Instagram support which seem to work better in terms of caching the response.
So our problem is resolved for now using the plugin ‘WP Instagram Widget’ and adding some custom styling to recreate the layout your widget has, but I still feel like this is a bug that should be resolved in Newspaper as it would be so much nicer not to have to use an additional plugin for this 🙂
