Is there any way around this? I need to speed things up. Also what hosting is recommending for speed? I use HostGator and they blow.

The theme only makes the request to Instagram and can’t control the response time from their servers. Google also complains about the images from Instagram widget but being served from external sources is no much you can do about them as they can’t be controlled. You can try to use cloudflare but I can’t say for sure how much will help.
