I do not see a way to edit the profile pic – shouldn’t be too complicated. Instructions?

It’s not; WordPress uses Gravatars for default author pix. So each user must have a Gravatar picture setup, usually keyed to their email address.
Optionally you can install a plugin to load local images using the default WP hooks.
We use “Simple Local Avatars” on all our sites; take a look at that 🙂
