I am trying to find a way to collect email addresses that works with the Newspaper theme. I’m attempting to ask for emails from the sidebar via a small form.
I am using MailMunch together with MailChimp. MailMunch is a plugin that creates a widget to be dragged to the sidebar. I go into my widgets and drag it into the sidebar. I’m using the World News demo theme and I drag the MailMunch sidebar widget right underneath the Social Counter widget and above the Ad Box widget.
It does not display.
Can you please advise? I don’t think this is a plugin issue – I have a problem whenever I try to add widgets to the sidebar from the widget menu unless I do it from the visual composer.

Unfortunately not all plugins work with premium themes. We have not tested MailMunch so I cannot say for sure if it will work or not with our theme. We only tested these plugins: http://screencast.com/t/zM08Ofoj

One more question: Upon further testing I noticed that adding any widgets, even a simple text box, to the sidebar in the widget menu doesn’t work. It saves, but isn’t actually visible. The only way to add something visible to the sidebar seems to be through the visual composer. Is this working as intended?
If that is working as intended:
With some custom coding, is it possible to have a widget show up on my side bar even though it is not displayed in visual composer? Or is the problem of not being able to use widgets that can’t be added in visual composer serious enough that I may have to seek an alternate theme?
Email lists are crucial for many websites, I’m sure this issue must have come up before?

Yes indeed the issue came up before but it is a wordpress issue. Please do not use any special characters in the sidebar names. Please only uses standard letters. No numbers and no symbols or character specific characters. WordPress will strip the sidebars if any of these special characters or symbols are detected.
