Hello,

I cannot seem to find the Envato Toolkit to load for two of my newer copies of your theme. I see there is an update released, but I cannot load it, because I cannot find Envato Toolkit, which does the update through the admin panel.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Peter

The Envato toolkit has never quite worked right for us, so typically best to do updates via FTP so you can take full site backup same time in case you need to “roll back,” and also to ensure everything uploaded properly.

Highly recommended to do updates via FTP, as many folks the past 3 years I’ve been around here have had numerous problems with broken sites using the Envato updater.

Just a suggestion.

Also, Google is super useful to do searches like
“what happened to envato toolkit”

e.g.,
https://forums.envato.com/t/envato-market-wordpress-plugin-beta/21639

http://envato.github.io/wp-envato-market/

QUOTE: “I’m excited to announce the new Envato Market WordPress Plugin. When installed into WordPress the plugin notifies buyers of updates to their Envato purchased themes and plugins, and allows installation of updates directly from within WordPress. We are initially launching the plugin as a beta in order to get feedback from buyers and authors on usability and likeliness to use.

The new plugin replaces the Envato WordPress Toolkit which uses the old API and will therefore be decommissioned along aside it early next year. There are some key differences between the toolkit and the new plugin, namely; the new plugin updates both themes and plugins, it uses the new API with OAuth, it updates itself when a new version is available and doesn’t require authors to integrate a complicated library into their items.”

Hello,

Thanks for your response, but again, that means I have to be a programmer to do that for all my themes manually.

Why is the back-end showing that all themes are current here: http://……/wp-admin/update-core.php? Does your theme not have a “call home” function to allow for easy and user-friendly updates?

Thanks,
Peter

Not my theme, as i’ve said previously.
Just being helpful to answer your questions while I’m waiting for my server updates to finish over here 🙂

In WordPress, you cannot ‘auto update’ themes unless in the WordPress.org repository, or if there is some intrusive wrapper plugin built into a theme “framework” which is a security risk.

FTP is best way to update/backup your site. Seriously, worth learning to do properly, along with periodic MySQL/phpMyAdmin backups for safe keeping!
