I need to add a class to various visual composer elements such as “text with title” and some of the blocks. I’m guessing that I can do this in classic mode using the visual composer shortcodes but is there a way to add it in visual composer instead? I see that some of the elements have a field for it but many do not.

Hi,
Unfortunately not all the Visual Composer elements have this feature.
If you want you can add a class on rows or on columns if you want to target then a block or a title with text from that row/column.
