Just to bump this up – since we upgraded to WordPress 4.8, we are now getting the same connection lost error
and also the style sheet one.
Wordpress help seems to blame template or webhost, but that can’t suddenly be the case, can it?

hello! I was able to solve the problem by increasing the amount of memory on the digital ocean server
It’s Yoast SEO. Even with an update to 5.1 it is still giving the errors. I disabled the plugin and, as if by magic, the connection was kept.
