There used to be a button to adjust the text into square boxes rather than only right, center, and left.

Wordpress is to blame for that, not the theme :). The underline was also removed. Please read this guide: http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-add-underline-and-justify-text-buttons-in-wordpress/
