When viewing a post that contains images, clicking on an image pulls up a carousel which can cycle through all the images within the post. Is there a way to turn off this feature? The images were not placed by using the “create slider” feature.

Do you are referring to this theme effect -> https://www.screencast.com/t/4ZNs3IPng If you are referring to this feature, notice that here is talking about Image Light Box/General Image. If you want to remove this effect you should turn off the General Modal Image from Theme panel and then if you have setup for each image the Modal image to be on, you should turn off from the editor.
