Set a page as a top level category?

Hi,
I’m aware that it’s possible to change the template for each of the top level categories from within the Theme Panel, but what if I don’t want to use any of the predefined options, and instead want to design a page to be used instead? Of course I could just link to the page from the menu, but that’s not going to change the link sitewide to that page.

For example, on my ‘Music’ category, I want to be able to have a slider at the top, and then under that, 3 columns which show the latest posts in my ‘Releases’ ‘Parties’ and ‘Artists’ subcategories.

Many thanks for your help!

Hello,

Sorry but the category pages cannot be edited like you would a normal page. Our theme or visual composer do not have this option available.

Thank you!

OK, is there a way of creating a page, and where there would normally be links to that category from the menu, or from individual posts, linking to that page instead? Otherwise the options for laying out the categories seem very limiting.

Many thanks for your help.

Hello,

This is a technique used by some by creating redirects between the category pages and static pages built in visual composer: http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/beginners-guide-to-creating-redirects-in-wordpress/
Just make sure not to use the same name for the pages as the category pages as wordpress creates conflicts if you have elements with the same name.

Thank you!
