Hello, I have been using Shim plugin instead of Visual Composer due to the stress it causes on the server on NewsMag. I have been interested in switching my theme over to Newspaper and wanted to see if the Shim plugin actually works with Newspaper 7…I think I read that the new BETA plugin they stopped working on due to errors, so I don’t think that’s an option.

The shim plugin will not work in newspaper 7 but we are developing our own page builder you can use. We have provided the builder with our free theme for the moment: https://www.wpion.com/free-news-theme/ and you can download it from there and use it on the newspaper theme.

Yes; in house builder (‘TagDiv Composer’) muuuuuuch lighter than VC, as it doesn’t try to be every damn idea ever invented on the web. In a perfect world VC would have a develop and deploy mode; meaning, design what you want, then export only what you need to keep lean CSS and not run the damn thing full tilt. It’s very very popular with the top themes on ThemeForest, but on certain servers (esp if using PHP 5.4!) it can be a beast.
PHP 5.6 helps with opcache.
But the TagDiv composer works great. I’m using it on several sites since August last year and works marvy!
