How do I add a full width widget just below the latest posts or just above the footer as shown in the image – http://imgur.com/KcW94Pw
If you mean the footer widget area itself, right above the copyright bar at the very bottom, the footer section of the theme panel gives you a full-width option.
If you mean above the footer widget area, you could add a row in the visual editor, and then add a widgetized sidebar element (without splitting it into columns). Create the sidebar (https://forum.tagdiv.com/sidebars/) if you don’t have one.
Unfortunately, this is on a page-by-page basis and I’m not sure how else you could do it, since you can’t have the footer widget area be split up and full-width at once.

Basically I want the default footer with 3 columns and a full width widget area just above it.
I see that widget areas in the visual editor always go above the latest posts. I cannot see a way to add it below the latest posts. With that method I cannot get what I’m looking still.
Basically from my understanding I see that I have to do that at the code level and I’m basically looking at the pointers to the files and the methods which will help me do that!!

What are you trying to add there? You could use the do_shortcode function to add a block for example, just go to loop-single.php file or other post templates http://screencast.com/t/8IeXdCKghap, depending on where do you want to display this and add your custom made block (use page builder to build your block as you like and then copy the shortcode http://screencast.com/t/Ed8kiEm5Xk3t and add it in the do_shortcode function) like this: http://screencast.com/t/02WxPlCC3vE
This how your code should look like:
