I’ve finally read enough to implement custom field querying, for example on author pages. Here are two examples:

But I have two questions.
(1) The row sometimes ends early in the module…
Try the coauthor tab on Luke’s page. Everything is laid out fine. Now go to Larissa’s page and try the photographer and coauthor tabs. The first row only has one column, then the rest are fine.
It may have something to do with the tabs… if I put those modules outside of tabs, they all work fine. But the question is, if it works on one author page, what’s different about the other one?! I can’t figure it out.
(2) Do you think it would be easy or hard to put in some kind of pagination, like for example the prev-next arrows on blocks (e.g. on http://building.mediumutm.ca/) ? I don’t think I can use td_post_generator::get_pagination because linking away from this page probably wouldn’t work with tabs.
What do you think?

Glad you figured it out!
Regarding the next/prev I don’t think it would be an easy task, the theme uses an script at the end of the block which based on the id of that block when requested it’s sends that request to the server and based on the info it receives changes only that part of the page, you cloud try something like that with the tabs if you want or you could try to find another way http://screencast.com/t/HaxSlwfeP

Hmm… Well, luckily the tabs do have unique IDs in VC’s system. But since the query is custom I wouldn’t be able to pass those variables to the script. Maybe if I could edit the script to deal with a presupplied array of posts instead, or something… but I don’t have that skill yet. Thanks anyhow! :p
