After I updated to Newspaper8, I noticed that all tag and categories are reset. I mean, on the site, I can see them, but in the dashboard, there is no tag or categories in the list.
Do you have any idea what I can do?

Are you sure you updated properly and not have 2 separate versions of the newspaper theme under appearance->themes?
You should delete the old theme and the new one and then install it again using WP. simply access appearance-> themes and delete every instance of the newspaper theme. Then press the add new button and upload the theme archive.

I used the plugin to update. I am using the child theme for Newspaper7. Can I use the same child theme for Newspaper8? I was not able to find a child theme for Newspaper8. Is it in the same folder?

No, please do not use the old child theme for the new theme version as there will be all kinds of problems. The child theme is not update proof. Please read this topic: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/setting-up-child-theme/
