Our news organization publishes some columns that get released regularly. Previously we have used a plug in “Organize Series” that essentially created a secondary “category” field if you will. This allowed us to organize by the column in addition to categories. But not everything we post belongs to a recurring column.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the best method is to achieve this? Should I try seeing how the plugin we used previously works if installed with Newspaper?
I don’t have much experience, but I don’t have the budget to hire a big company. lol

You can make tests with the plugin and the theme, and check if it is working properly. Set it like before and see if the results are as you need. Please note that the plugin might not be compatible with the theme, in this case you could try plugins with similar capabilities, if this is required for your website.
