Newspaper 8 is installed but for some reason our child theme still thinks it’s version 7.8.1
I have not logged to server yet to check the folders, thought that I look around here and ask first what may cause it.
Usually when going to full dot upgrades, it’s an entirely new theme, and so you also need to update the child theme as well. Meaning you need an 8x child theme with 8x parent.
Hmmm… Do I need to build up totally new child theme and move step by step all custom modifications to new one or will it work old child theme with new one too?

The child theme version provided in the theme package is 7.7c, that is not important. The child theme will work properly. What needs to be taken into consideration is the custom code you use inside the child theme. Each main theme update might add, remove or modify theme files, so the child theme may need modifications. That can only be verified through testing.
