is theme update automatic and how often it gets updated

Hi, I made some changes to style.css and td-login-modal.php for social login feature. I didn’t create child theme as I heard it could make the site slow and made the changes directly on the default theme.
Just wonder is theme update automatic and how often it gets updated? I need to make updates manually every time theme gets updated. thanks！

There is no automatic update, as with many/most ‘commercial’ themes. If you sign up for the update note on your Envato/ThemeForest account – you will get email each time there is a theme update. Dot updates are typically bug or security fixes, or to update the included plugins – so check changelog each time. Major number updates are big upgrades and like new theme.
