Ok, so full disclosure, I”m a drupal guy just learning wordpress on this new site and the theme and all those fun things that go with a new system or two!!! So maybe I’m just a bit too cautious, but after a whole night of trying to figure out how to give proper image credit.. poking around under the hood in WP and feeling a bit over whelmed, I woke up this morning to a new update 4.0 to WP… sooo…..

What do you guys think? Upgrade right off while I build to make sure everything is working or wait? Anyone update to 4.0 and find any issues?? Are we SURE the new theme release works with 4?

Just hoping for a little friendly advice from those who have been wordpressing for a while.

anecdotal

so far have updated to 4.0 with no trouble
– 4 year old theme; worked fine, asked to update dbase
– 4 year old theme; worked fine; just completed
– 2 sites running custom Woo Canvas; updated fine; one plugin update
– 1 Newspaper 3.92. site; updated fine
– 1 Newspaper 4.2.2 site; updated fine

BE AWARE if you check the changelog for the Newspaper theme, the current version has been fully tested with WP 4 RC1 which was released in past couple of weeks (they were shooting for Sept 1 WP 4 release date, so hit it pretty close post holiday).

So, beyond third party plugins, should work fine.
No issues with latest YOAST SEO, wp-optimize, feedwordpress, addthis, XML sitemaps, our internal random advert module (for banners or text-based no follow ad boxes/responsive); etc.

So, not quite the pain and torment of 3.9 which was precursor to 4.0. You are generally pretty safe with this one…. but always do *BACK UP* prior to any major full number revision, of course.

Hope that helped on the paranoia 😉

Thanks you guys!!! so far everyone says that v4 really isn’t that much of an update, but in my experience those are the ones that have the most hidden “gotchas” no one saw coming!!!

and I usually wait a while to update… so I’ll do that this time too!!!

Yeah, basically some new features, house cleaning; a lot of wp configuration tools under the hood; but not the big “security panic” updates of some of the recent dot revisions. But always check the codex to see changes, since if there is a notable security fix you SHOULD update to remain secure.

Just another note on a 4.2.2 Newspaper update with a couple dozen plugins successfully and cleanly updating to WP 4 from 3.9.2. 🙂

Hello all,

for this wordpress release I’ve tested the theme a lot since 4.0 beta . The update should work just fine.

Thanks for the feedback,
Radu O.
