We are currently using the Template Style 7 on the pages for our posts and are wondering if there is a way to control the scaling of the featured images on the fullwidth header. Also, is there a way to change to way the image is pinned (i.e. change it from top center to middle centered) the way we can change the way the thumbnail images are pinned when cropped?

There is no way of controlling the scale except for custom modifications. You will need to upload bigger images to the posts that use a full width image. We recommend a full had image for this type of post. Otherwise there will be quality loss.

If you want to change the way our themes crops photos, you can do that using the theme API. but that will require coding skills. There is no easy way of changing the thumb implementation.
