Hi,

First of all great theme.

For now, I’m able to add related posts on the bottom after the post.

Now, I want to show related posts(show only posts within a category) in the sidebar.

How do I do that?

Thanks.

Hello theguitarjunky,

If you want to have related post functionality to your Sidebar you should add a block you want in that area in Widgets section and that block you have to be sorted by latest articles.

I actually have the same question. I have followed your suggestion however it is not working. If you go to http://mainstrock.com/7-things-successful-young-adults-do-every-day/ you will notice the category is “Career”. However, the articles appearing in the side module are main Faith Articles. How do I make it so the regardless what article page I am on, I will always see the latest article in the category of that articles on the side? Another thing that is strange is the on the link provided, the article of the page it is on also appears on the side. If they are already on that article, why would it appear in the list of articles? Thank you for your help!

Hello giovanni114,

The only way to achieve the latest articles from a certain category is to use a block with this setting -> https://www.screencast.com/t/NbMKIBYL Notice that you should manually choose the category you like to display the latest articles.
If is not what you mean, provide more details with screenshots for a better understanding and also, so I can provide a more accurate response.

Thanks for the message!

Thanks, Catalin. So pretty much what I need to do is create a new sidebar widget for EVERY category and have a block custom for that one side bar?

What I has hoping is if you notice under the article there is a box that say More from this author and Related Articles that always autopopulates. I was hoping there was a universal plugin that I could do the same concept on the side.

Hi,

You could create one sidebar, add a block with the configuration to display posts from the category you want. Set this sidebar for the category
https://www.screencast.com/t/8eaD0gO9
In the post pages for posts that belong to that category you can set a primary category
https://forum.tagdiv.com/primary-category/
All the posts that have it as a primary category will inherit that sidebar once set. This way you can control the sidebar for multiple posts at once.

Thanks

I too have this need for my site and I don’t think your above answer solves the problem described.

The Related Posts functionality that sits below an article determines what to render in that box by looking at the category and tags of the post being displayed. If the post is assigned “Category A” then related posts will be “Category A.” If the article is tagged “Category G” then related posts will be “Category G” posts.

Is there a way to set up something similar for a sidebar? With this setup, one sidebar could be created that would display related posts that match the category and/or tag of the post in view. Otherwise, if I have 40 categories, I’d have to create 40 different sidebars and make sure to manually select the correct sidebar when posting content.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Hi,

Something like that would not be possible with the current theme settings. A dynamic filtering such as the Related articles (by category or tag) and More from author (by author of post) is not available in an element or widget. It was considered to be sufficient to have one related articles section per post page, like the one already implemented.
The theme blocks do not have a related filtering or sorting, or is there a widget created specifically for this purpose. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks
