With the new update of Newspaper 8 it has slowed our sites load time to a crawl. 10-16 second load times. Once I deactivate theme to test on another site, its around 2-3 seconds. What gives? How do I correct this?
Try installing the latest theme version (8.7.2) this update contains many improvements over the previous theme version. Check the changelog here

We have the latest theme installed.
Still doesnt help the speed. Before the update the speed was fine.
I see where you posted on someones else’s thread that you could give them the previous version of the theme. Is that possible? Im 100% confident the latest update 8.7.2 has caused the slow loading times.

My site slowed as well after the update. the frond end and the admin dashboard takes longer to load.
I was doing some seo on the previous theme to make it load faster and was doing well but then i updated the theme and now it seems slower.

Im prolly not a lot of help but did you check for 404 errors. I found some and its helped the speed.
can you suggest a plugin that check for 404 error pages?

Also test with no other plugins active if possible, plugins are the main source of delay when loading a website. Leave only theme plugins active and check the speed. Ads loading on the page can have an impact as well.
The same problems with speed. Problems stared after installation of newspaper theme 8.7 over 8.6.
Now I try following, the same server, fresh wordpress installations and only Yoast plugin. One with Divi theme other one with Newspaper 8.7.
Both in Add new post wp-admin and press F5 on both, I pressed first on Newspaper then immediately on Divi.
Divi shows all forms of Add new page in 3-4 sec and keep reloading in 10-15 sec.
Newspaper shows all Add new menus in 14-16sec and keep rolling and rolling to 40-45 sec.
Very noticable slower than Divi theme. Didn’t test with older Newspaper 8.6, but as far as I remember I didn’t have noticable problems with older version.
I measured 5x times in a row, and Newspaper is always too slow.
Any suggestion please. I can install old theme and try with older theme if you want.

Can’t install old theme, doesn’t matter. Tagdiv newspaper reload time for Add new post takes 40-46sec, I try default wordpress theme on the same domain, reload time of Add new post takes only 3-4 sec :).

I tried everything. I believe with the combination of some plugins for caching and image smashing I got the speed a little better. first time load takes 30 sec while second time takes 3 sec. We do have many pictures in the home page so it may be that.

Tnx, I didn’t know there is Newspaper version 8.7.2, so for me it was problem with old version.
8.7 has speed problems and web site is very slow with Newspaper 8.7.
After manually upating of Newspaper from 8.7 to 8.7.2 my wp-admin and website is finally fast again and works great.

@amerikaliturk Test without plugins, leave only theme plugins active. Check the results like that. There are many speed optimization guides here on the forum as well, you can read them and try some of the solutions
