cant figure out to set a default featured image for a post if I dont add one.

Hello.
The theme already has a set of placeholder images like so:
In order to change these images, you will have to do it manually by creating a placeholder image and replacing these thumbnails: https://www.screencast.com/t/B1cSNNXPLv
You have to keep the file name and sizes intact for it to work properly.
