I have installed the news mag theme, but a number of the buttons in the back end of WP dont work.
When I highlight the word news mag on the left, all the options that pop out dont work. I click on one and I just get a white screen, wonder if you could help

Hi,
I don’t quite understand what you are referring to, what are these buttons you mention and what you are highlighting.
The first step to take when something is not working as it should, is to deactivate all the plugins. Leave only theme plugins active, then check if the same thing happens.
Also be sure to check the theme requirements in the theme system status panel
