I’m a little confused as to why we have to enable thumbnails depending on what blocks we use. Can i just enable them all? or does that mean each image i upload in a post will be replicated all those times?

Hi,
You can enable them all in the theme panel, then all the sizes will be created. It is not required that only the ones that are used to be enabled. There just is an option provided if some users don’t want specific sizes to be created.
The images that are set as featured images will have thumbnails created, these thumbnails will be shown in modules, blocks and grids.
