I have the latest verison of newspaper theme and i ve been having this issue for a while. I have home page created using the visual composer that comes with Newspaper. I set up the Block 12 to show the latets posts of my site. While this work the number of comments shows on the block is always zero, then as you scroll down to older post, the comments counts always shows 620. even i have couple of comments.
I tried the update comments count plugin, tried removing disquss, its always the same issue. Even though the comments counter is correct if you go the category page.

The theme comment counter will work properly only with the default WordPress commenting system.
With disqus you could try the modifications mentioned in these topics by a user

Maybe there will be an option in the future to select a comment source, can’t say for sure.

Is there a way to bring the “/wp-includes/comment-template.php” file into the child theme so that the changes for the Disqus comment count stay and do not get modified when the version of WordPress is updated?
