Excerpt not working on Blog Post Page

I just purchased the Newspaper 9 theme and I just began working on it. However when I posted some articles on the blog page and specified the excerpt on the article, the post list (blog home page) page showed the entire article and not the excerpt. The articles I posted are very lengthy so it makes no sense to have multiple lengthy articles on the blog home page. I did not touch the excerpt setting on the theme panel.
