The homepage of the default demo shows an email address and date despite the fact that I selected “hide author’s name and date.” How do you hide the email address and date on the homepage?

That is the author name and post date, seems the author name is an email. If you want to remove them you can do so in the theme panel block settings – http://prntscr.com/n7ambm
