I tried to update my website and it made a terrible mess of it. I managed to restore a backup, so right now things are ok.
I’m not planning to try updating the theme again. I don’t want (to learn) Tagdiv Composer. Every time i tried to activatie there was a lot of stress. I’m not going to do it again.
What will be the consequences when i stop updating from this point? Do i have to choose a new theme?
To be honest: WordPress is for people who want to create websites without knowledge. A website that is working and that on keeps working. You guys made a great theme but your explanation about the update is just not good enough for dummies like me.
My website crashed too when I followed the instructions to update my Newspaper Theme. I was able to restore it from a backup.
I have already started looking at new themes. I don’t know how long the current version that I am using will be supported. The email that I received said things will change in May. Does that mean if I don’t update my theme by May it won’t be functional anymore?
This is a great them, but there have been some big frustrations when updating. Things like having to change your post from ‘Default Template Style’ setting to ‘1’ or else all your articles/posts would show up blank.
For me the worst has been the abysmal Mobile plugin as it caused way more headaches than just letting the AMP plugin do its job. If you use a free plugin like Asset Clean Up, it will actually get your site speeding up in mobile mode to keep Google happy.
Just Follow Calin’s Post at the top of the Forum !IMPORTANT NEW UPDATE Newspaper 9.7 “Please read this guide to learn about the new functionality of the new update: – https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/” My site went down, but it is a simple fix, just follow the guidlines and you will be back up in 5 minutes.
Hi,
The 9.7 update was a somewhat major update, now the tagDiv composer has to be active at all times in order to maintain the same functionality. Most issues that can happen after update are related to how the theme is updated.
For example if you update by FTP the old theme has to be deleted and the new one uploaded. Then the plugins have to be updated as mentioned in the guide provided above. If you use a child theme this may not work anymore, the recent changes are the cause.
You can however not update for the time being and keep using the previous theme version, that depend on you entirely. You can update in the future if you should consider it. Maybe try it on a local copy of the site to see what happens, while having the main website kept safe. There are plugins that can duplicate a website if you should consider this suggestion.
If you want us to take a look you can send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin access as well as FTP or cPanel. Let us know.
