Newspaper 9+ Child Theme

I am confused about the new Envato-compliant version of Newspaper 9.7.2 and the use of child themes.

I have modified module 8 and the corresponding CSS in the version prior to you releasing this update. Where does my modified module now sit in terms if a child theme, as the related block/module includes has moved to a “legacy” folder within wp-content>plugins etc.

This seems to me that I cannot create a child and my customised block will be overwritten each time there is an update.

Is this the case? If so, how do you recommend getting around this?

Thanks

Best

Gary

This is not WP best practices and all my other Themes from themeforest have also been updated Envato compliant with no issues to the Child Theme.

This seriously inhibits my ability to customise my site if I update to 9.7.1 If I do not update and keep my customised functions I risk security and future functionality and customisation from the Theme authors.

Hi,

@garyjones
, sorry for the inconvenience, but this is not by choice, unfortunately. The theme has to be in accordance with the new Envato rules -> https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements, so these modifications were necessary. Moving the files into the composer plugin has consequences for the child theme as well. Maybe a solution will be found, we will make a guide if that will be the case. I can’t say what will happen at the moment, our developers will try to find the best solution. The cloud templates don’t have PHP or code files, they must be built/edited in the composer. You can work on them with the composer in the front end.

@knaggsy
, I’m sorry about that but please notice that all of the Envato themes will follow and integrate these changes. As a remark, the deadline for this implementing will be until the final of May. If you want, you can provide some examples of themes which are Envato compliant and also, which were integrated these changes.

Thank you for your understanding!
