Mobile / AMP Embeded video links and modal images

Hi guys 🙂

I’m thinking of enabling the mobile version with AMP, but when I do I have the following issues:
– All previously embedded videos (400+ posts) fail to parse and just show a url.
– All images which would normally present a popup / modal image box link directly to the image file, navigating away from the page.

When using the mobile theme, is there a way to support embedded video links, without me having to edit 400 posts to include facebook embed code?
Can support be given to allow users viewing a post in the mobile theme to be able to click an image and not be navigated away from the post?

Thank you!

Hi,

From what I know from searching online something must have changed on Facebook’s side, pasting the link to a Facebook video in the post content will not work anymore
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/facebook-videos-dont-show-on-the-classic-editor/
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/56143270/facebook-video-url-not-working-in-wordpress-sie

I get this – http://prntscr.com/nou6j8http://prntscr.com/nou6op
Using the embed code seems to still work – http://prntscr.com/nou70k
http://prntscr.com/nou73w
This works in the mobile theme and AMP is active as well – http://prntscr.com/nou7hu
So if you embedded thee videos as mentioned they will work in the mobile theme + AMP version.

But the modal you are referring to when images are clicked (mobile theme active) will not work. That will work only for desktop. The mobile theme is kept as simple as possible, for increased speed. Some users asked for a solution to remove any interaction with the images, that could be done with CSS – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/disable-click-on-photo-in-the-mobile-theme/

Thanks

Hi Simion,

Thanks for the reply. I understand that using the embed code will enable embedded videos for any future posts, but this puts me in a difficult position.

I want to enable AMP and the mobile theme, but I have 300+ posts, many of which contain embedded videos that will now be broken.

Hi,

Maybe WordPress will fix it in an update so that Facebook video links will work again same as before when embedded. Until then it seems that videos embedded by links will be displayed as links.
From what I can find, links that were used previous to the changes they made, will still work where they are set. But new ones will not. We will monitor how the situation develops, to see if we need to make changes on our side in the theme, but that shouldn’t be the case however.

Thanks, Simion.

I wonder if there is a plugin available to perform the embed until it becomes native again.

Thank you!

As it turns out, installing the “WP Embed Facebook” plugin has allowed me to swap to the mobile + AMP plugin and have videos enabled on both.

I also just stumbled on something else. The WP AMP plugin offers lightbox and carousel options for pages.

So if you enable AMP, you can actually force lightbox effects on images, along with dynamic sizes.

This can be marked as solved. For anyone else with the same issue:
– Install WP Embed Facebook plugin. It will fix any legacy posts when you enable the mobile theme.
– Install and activate the AMP plugin, where you can select lightbox options inside the post.

I’m now running the mobile theme AND AMP without issue.
