How to add own Elements (Code) in Header section

Hi there, I just wanted to add own HTML-Code (like some divs and static text) inside the header section of the template. Even if I change the …/theme/FOLDER/header.php nothing happens.
What did I do wrong – which files are to change?
I would be very glad for some hints.
