Website totally down after update – please help

I am not an expert so i have my website on wordpress.com. After the recent Newspaper-Update my website ( https://ipad-in-der.schule ) went straight down.
First of all the tagDiv Composer and tagDiv Mobile Theme were deactivated, WordPress told that they are not compatible with the WordPress version.
I contacted WordPress-Support and they also told me they cannot reactivate the plugins.
The website at this point only showed the template and code instead of content – but the design was still visible.

Guided by the WordPress-Support i rewinded the website to a point four days ago (before the update) which leaded to a total breakdown of the website. During the process i got an email with the message “Ein Fehler vom Typ E_COMPILE_ERROR wurde in der Zeile 14 der Datei /srv/htdocs/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/functions.php verursacht. Fehlermeldung: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘td_deploy_mode.php’ (include_path=’/:.’)”.
Now, the website is down and WordPress-Support could not help me anymore. They told me to contact you.

What can i do?
This is really bad as i put a lot of work in my website and after the update i just went down…

Is there any workaround to fix this problem?

Just another question that brought up the WordPress support: Is it possible to get the download file of the older version of Newspaper – just to get the problem fixed quickly before there is a final sollution?

Update 06/02/2019, 13:38: Just rewinded my WordPress.com-installation to a version from 4 day ago (before the update). First, the site was totally damaged/messed and only showed an error 500, after a while and with service of the wordpress-helpdesk it seemed to work and right now is showing again after activating the tagdiv-plugins.
But after resetting the backup, there were no thumbnails shown on the website. Even after using thumbnails regenerator – plugin, it is still not working.

Finally, following instructions from WordPress-Support, I deactivated Envato Market – Plugin and hope to prevent any theme update back to version 9.7.3 until the main bugs are fixed…

Hope for a reply from customer service, especially a bugfixed version that works with any WordPress-installation.

Update 06/03/2019, 09:36: Thumbnails still not working, even after trying two thumbnails regenerator – plugins. Megamenu is not working, not even the option shown in menu settings.

(from the very helpful WordPress support i got another message: “After discussing this issues with my team we have noticed there is Javascript error in your site which seems to be coming from your theme Uncaught Error: Syntax error, unrecognized expression.“)

I hope to get advice about what to do. All this definitely began right after the 9.7.3 – Update.
Rewindinding to 9.7.2 finally worked after a lot of trouble, but the problems mentioned above remain. Is there any advice? Any possibility to get at least a working download of the 9.7.2 version? Thank you!

Hi,

From what I can see the images are not being decoded properly, do you use any other image lazy-load or optimization plugins besides the theme lazyload?
Something like the Jetpack site accelerator could cause this problem
https://jetpack.com/support/site-accelerator/ try disabling it temporarily.
Or disable the theme lazyload – https://www.screencast.com/t/SRN3vfjunT

There are some javascript errors, one of them seems to refer to a lightSlider
https://www.screencast.com/t/iCDYBwMpSh
Do you maybe use a plugin, or maybe code in the theme panel or theme files related to this error somewhere in the website?

Thanks

Thank you very much for the response and help.

1 – by disabling the theme lazyload I got the images back. They are now loading. Thanks!

2- lightSlider plugin I could not find. I deleted two slider plugins I used before: Slide Anything – Responsive Content / HTML Slider and Carousel and
Slider Revolution – plugins. Now I keep using only one Slider Plugin which is SmartSlider 3 (and it seems to work properly).

3 – I still cannot reactivate the MegaMenu I used before. I does not appear in the Menu-settings.

So, what about the 9.7.3 – Update and the problems that occured afterwards (only code on the website etc.) – shall I retry an Update?
Right now i have deactivated Envato Market in order to prevent the theme from updating automatically…

Thanks again!

3- somehow MegaMenu is working again. Maybe by deactivating the slider plugins. But I did not change anything else. Strange…

So, remains the question concerning the 9.7.3 – Update. Can I retry an Update or shall I wait for a new version that does not affect the WordPress-Installation as it did some days ago? Right now I have deactivated Envato Market in order to prevent the theme from updating automatically…

Everything seems to work fine at the moment, the images, menu etc. You could wait for the current issues to be fixed, and update when a new theme update is released. Sorry for all the inconvenience.
