Regenerate Thumbnails

Hello,
I have a client’s website who had old thumbnails sizes.
I see that in the newspaper, we can specify sizes of thumnails, but the questions are :

– Does the regeneration removes the old sizes of thumbnails and regenerates the correct sizes ?
– What about the WP media setting options… ?
should I leave them as is it ?
will it generates thoses sizes as well ?
or will it be simply ignored (ie. theme panel thumnbail sizes are taking over WP thumnails sizes ?

currently set on :
thumbnails : 250×170
medium : 520×520
big : 720×405

I tried to regenerate thumbnails on the demo site, took 1h40 100%… but when i check in the uploads folder, nothing has changed ?!! no new images generated, no old ones deleted, still the old dates of files in the FTP…

I don’t understand… any clue ?

yes i did find and followed that tutorial, but this is not my question.

– Question is about the default WP thumbnails settings ?? do we need those images sizes, is it supposed to be set like that by default ?

– or Do the settings of Newspaper images thumnails is taking over the WP media setting options ?

and another thing that i don’t understand is, it’s two times i’m running Regenerate thumbnails, and tired with force regenerate thumbnails as well, but when i go inside the “uploads” folder on the FTP, I don’t see any new dates on files on the server, nor new names or thumnails version.

also, seems that the plugins “regenerate thumbnails” VS “Force regenerate thumbnails” are not working the same way? do you confirm ?
