Newspaper Version: 9.5
Newspaper 7 Child theme Version: 7.7c
WordPress 5.3.2
I’ve tried to update to Newspaper 10 but the design of my frontend broke.
Is it possible to update from version 9.5 to 10 or do I have to update to another version beforehand? Does the child theme also need to be updated?
How should I proceed here?

Hi,
First please make a full backup to your website, after that please deactivate all the plugins and child theme (the child theme need to be replace with the one from Newspaper X, this changes appear from envato requirements -> https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/ ) after that make the theme update via FTP, you must delete the old theme and set the new one.

After you set the theme go in Welcome -> https://i.imgur.com/xaAMgVl.png and install the theme plugins, check the site and activate the rest of the plugins you are using.

Thank you for the detailed and helpful answer. I made some changes in the child theme:
loop-single-5.php
single_template_7.php
includes/modules/td_module_2.php
includes/modules/td_module_16.php
parts/header/header-style-8.php
Have these files changed in version 10 or can I apply my changed templates 1:1?
Otherwise, which version would be the last possible to which I can update without having to readjust these files?

Yes, these files are locate in different places now, also you need to change the child theme for this and use the one from Newspaper X package, therefore some of theme need to be set in sub folders, for example the loop-single-5.php and single_template_5.php need to be set in child_theme_name\parts\single\loop-single-5.php -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/ in this way the files that you have set in child should apply again.
The version that are working with the child you have are the versions under 9.7.3

thanks again – did I understand that correctly: the template files listed are basically unchanged – only the place where they are stored has changed? So I can also use my modified templates in the new child-theme?

Yes, you understand correctly the standard post templates that you have in child theme should work, only that you need to set them in sub folders as in our documentation.

After the update, another problem has arisen: We are using the Elementor Page Builder for the posts – now after update the posts are without content and can no longer be edited with Elementor (see screenshot: http://ebms.at/corporaid.at/ elementor_error.png).
For example:
Staging (NewspaperX): http://ebms.at/corporaid.at/indischer_tourismus
Live (Newspaper 9.5): https://www.corporaid.at/indischer_tourismus
Some sidebar widgets were also deactivated by the update – what can be the reason?

Unfortunately, the Elementor plugin has not been tested with our theme and therefore, we cannot say for sure if it will work or not as expected with the theme, sorry! Also, we cannot provide support for untested plugins.
