I bought the Newspaper theme and I have no idea how to have “POPULAR STORIES THIS WEEK” in the widget and how to have “TRENDING STORIES”.
I know it’s just titles he manually wrote, but which “sort order” option should I choose?
I wanted to have ‘popular this week’ widget so I chose “Popular (last 7 days)” but it’s not showing any article!
And what about ‘trending stories’? which ‘sort order’ option can work here?

The person probably is just using the “latest” stories and made the header “trending stories” since all the new stories will be trending this week over old content.

For TRENDING STORIES in that case he choose latest article, you can open first posts and take a look at the date.
About Popular 7 days do you have visits on those articles? Can you post your site link to see.

If I change it to Popular 7 days, nothing shown.

Please make sure that you have this option enabled: http://screencast.com/t/HJHorbKO and also make sure you update and use the latest theme version (4.6.1) and also test this without any plugins active (leave active just VC) and empty cache.
Let me know if you still have issues after doing this.

You could try to disable cloudflare, clear cache and check if the issue is still there.
