The view count on our posts is not working at all. Its shows 0 views in the backend even if a post has 1000s of views.

By editing the view counter you will be able to switch between options. Choose the one that works for you: https://www.screencast.com/t/s5oqATe1
You can’t see the ajax anymore because that would apply only to default templates and you’re using the Cloud library ones.

We already tried doing this, but it will only show the view count that appears here: https://screencast.com/t/9unpEuyz
So the problem is that the view count is not being captured for some reason. The view count appears to be 0 even for the posts on which we have been getting loads of traffic.

The view count from your picture does not come from Newspaper Theme. That is a wordpress issue. You will have to contact wordpress support for that.
