Hello there!
We have big problem with the growth of database and ftp space. After uploading about 70,000 photos, the post_meta table grew to almost 400 MB and almost 2 million files were created on server (images and their thumbnails). Most of these photos are only in the gallery (there are no featured image) and we don’t need as many thumbnails as the template defines for them. Is it possible to do something about this?

Hello !
You will have to take a look and disable the thumbnails that are not used. You can look here and see each thumbnail dimension what blocks use it: https://www.screencast.com/t/PJrA7GwOx11
After knowing which blocks are available on your website you can disable the thumb sizes that are not used.
