First off, there is a black splotch just above(on the left hand side) the big slide on my static front page. There should be some title there I believe, like the title block that is over the ‘Latest articles’. It looks bad and creates extra white space between the slider and header. How do I remove this? You can view it at http://www.betheline.com if you don’t know exactly what I am speaking of.
Secondly, using the home page template for BG w/ latest articles, the page shows what ever amount of articles it wants. I set the ‘Loop’ at 6 and it shows 8 sometimes 9. When I had it set at 4, it would do the same … show a willy-nilly amount of articles. I would like my front page to have just 6 ‘latest articles under the carousel. Then people can click through the back log if they wish. Is there a fix for this, maybe a code I can replace?

1. There is the title of the big slider, edit the big slider and choose hide title.

However, it still has more than 6. currently it is hosting 9, sometimes it is 8.
Is there a fix for this?
