Feeds no longer working

Hi there,

I have issues with my feeds since I started using this theme. My feeds no longer update via feedburner. I tried to resync but it won’t work. I use the “Homepage – with article list” layout.

The second problem is that my homepage latest article list display 2 old posts before starting with the latest posts, which is kind of strange.

What can I do about these?

First go to your feed in Internet Explorer which still lets you see your feed, and or in Chrome I think you can see the “code” … and make sure it’s being updated. Check if you have a caching plugin running which is caching the whole site and not just “page cache” … the RSS function is part of WP and not the theme, but if you can see the RSS in your web browser then it’s not a problem with your site. If the RSS is “old” and not updated with current story, be sure to check your cache. I had this issue when we set the caching too strong and cached the RSS feeds, which shouldn’t happen.

Hope that helped.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried all those before posting this. I even went to the extent of trying to resync but got the following two error messages:

There is an issue that must be addressed with your source feed for the feed “Scholars Hub Africa”

The domain “java.net.UnknownHostException: http://www.scholarshubafrica.com” does not seem to exist.

I have another site that uses feedburner and doesn’t give me any problem. It only started when I changed the theme, hence my conclusion that it is somehow related to the theme.

It appears the original feed url is broken: http://www.scholarshubafrica.com/?feed=rss2

Here is the feed url: http://feeds.feedburner.com/scholarshubafrica/BWzC.

Thanks

Well right now your site comes up as ‘not found’ from here in California, USA
http://www.scholarshubafrica.com/

(2:23pm PST / 5:23pm EST; Sat. 12/21)

so that would obviously cause a problem with feedburner …

normally you should be able to read feed more simply at

http://www.scholarshubafrica.com/feed/

which is the default RSS2 feed for WordPress sites — it’s what I use with Feedburner myself. sitename.000/feed

Thanks!

I just resolved it. The problem was from my server. The www root was not cnamed to the domain name. I just did it and everything updated.

Could you you offer some advise about putting an ad code between the header menu and the content area. When I try it, the site goes blank without any specific error message.

Thanks again!

Hi, mmtt – glad you got that sorted!

no advice on putting ads in feeds, although feedburner I think lets you insert your own adsense codes into your RSS with them now.

In our case, we only serve “summary” RSS content as we don’t want people republishing our original copyrighted content, and we want them to read items on our site, not via RSS. So, we don’t use full text RSS anywhere anymore to avoid making theft of content too easy for ‘scrapers.’

Oh – just noticed you’re doing same for just having snippets in your RSS feed.

To insert an ad “between” items in an RSS feed, you’d have to actually build a custom RSS feed, I think. There may be a plugin that does that, dunno. Try the adsense injection that feedburner offers, maybe?

Hello,

@mmtt
do you want to put an ad here: http://screencast.com/t/5UELpHkYKq

You can put an ad using the visual composer adding a text with you ad code or using the theme ad system, create an ad from Theme – Option -> Ads, then add in your homepage an Ad box

Hope this help.
Thanks for the message!
