Why did comments disappear on Pages?

Hi. Any idea why the comments on my Pages have disappeared while they still show on Posts? Is it because the default for Pages does not have a comments block?

Examples:

OK I found in Theme Panel > Template Settings.

But why turn off and why didn’t the update to the theme keep old settings?
