here is an example of just placing large banners in top of the page without grey placeholders – is this a better way with your theme?
in the last example they have a grey row – how can add such a row and reference it in either your ad system or ad rotate?

Please note that if you are using a background color or image your layout will be boxed. If you will not use any background you can insert an AdBox element which will render almost any type of content. You can see an example in here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fa7GenCHcBU
