We did import the date template and assigned it under the Theme Panel just as you described. We want to be able to give our readers access to archives from past years. Your advice did not work or help.

Anna – I do not think you understand what the problem is. Archives points back to the home page of the website. I do not use Yoast SEO. I use Rank Math Pro. How is this to be fixed?

Yes. We fixed it ourselves. Actually your not right as Rank Math pro was the issue. We had to configure – enable a button in the settings under miscellaneous pages (archives) so that the archive page would not point back to the home page.
