SEO/Schema.org: Article or NewsArticle?

Hi,

does it make any difference in terms of google rankings or something, if I use “NewsArticle” instead of “Article” within the Schema.org declarations?

technically “article” is fine and the wrapper also identifies where the text lives for things like Apple’s reader function on iPad/iOS.

Also technically, “NewsArticle” was originally designed for PRINT publications and the ability to line up the print page number with the digital element.

That’s why when you look at the actual schema, much of it relates to a “thing” which is the print edition of a magazine article:
