How to filter by two different taxonomies

We have an issue-based magazine with sections (categories) and issues (custom taxonomy). All posts belong to one section and one issue. We need to be able to filter posts by section/category AND issue/custom taxonomy (for instance, we want to show all the posts in the science section belonging to the last issue). The multiple taxonomies filter shows all the posts belonging to the selected category plus all the posts belonging to the selected custom taxonomy, but we need the filter to show ONLY the posts that satisfy BOTH conditions. How can we do that?
Thanks.

Hello !

The easiest way for this would be to set a 3rd category or slug that will be made only for posts that meet all the requirements.

Thank you !

I’m not sure you have understood what I meant. I’ll give you more details.

Our magazine currently has:
– 21 issues (21 elements in the custom taxonomy “Issues”: Issue no. 1, Issue no. 2, Issue no. 3…)
– 19 different sections/subsections (categories and subcategories)
– Each post belongs to one issue and one section (and, sometimes, also one subsection)
– Not all issues include all sections, but we have at least 15 sections per issue.

If I understood you correctly, you suggest that we create combined categories (Issue no. 1 + category no. 1, Issue no. 1 + category no. 2, etc.). That would mean that we would have more than 300 categories and they would keep on growing with each issue published.

I hope it is clearer now.

Thank you!

Hello !

I understand but unfortunately there are not many options. You can consider using a Tag Slug: https://i.imgur.com/VNodDwn.png

Unfortunately other options I cannot see available at the moment.

Thank you !

We don’t want to use tags for this. They have a different purpose.

I find it very annoying that a theme which is specific for newspapers and magazines doesn’t allow filtering by issue. Actually, I think the issue taxonomy should be included in the theme. Maybe you could consider adding that in the (near) future?

Thanks

Hello !

I have talked to our developers so they can take a look at our filtering system in order to bring it up to date.

Thank you !

I think this is my same issue. The custom taxonomies don’t seem to be an option anywhere. Hard to start a buildout when you need these specific items to work.
