What is the purpose of the \'Inline ext\' shortcode, as opposed to Column Text ?

What is the purpose of the ‘inline text’ shortcode, as opposed to column text s/c? And within it, the ‘display inline’ check box? And when should I use one vs the other?

Normally the inline text can be used only for the text. A column text element can render shortcodes, can have a title bar: https://www.screencast.com/t/4BFAmIVV8F5
